Featured in Forbes and Buffer and voted Best Creator in Charlotte and Best Instagram in Charlotte by Queen City Nerve, Dre is creator behind DailyDreCLT. What started as a personal challenge to explore more of North Carolina quickly evolved into an insider’s guide filled with authentic recommendations and local favorites for residents, businesses, and visitors.
One North Carolina destination that continues to stand out for Dre is Historic Belmont. Located less than 30 minutes from Charlotte, Belmont makes the perfect day trip or weekend getaway for visitors looking for small-town charm, local flavor, and memorable experiences. During her recent visit, Dre shared six Belmont gems that deserve a spot on your itinerary.
The Cotton Candy Factory
If you’re searching for sweet treats, the Cotton Candy Factory is the place to go. You can spin your own cotton candy or choose from fun seasonal sculptures and nostalgic treats. And every spin is for a good cause, supporting local nonprofit Holy Angels’ commitment to loving, living and learning for the differently able.
The Belmont Bookshop
Whether you’re hunting for your next read or simply enjoying a slow afternoon in downtown Belmont, this indie bookstore on Main Street is a must-visit. Dre described the space as “dreamy” and “stunning,” thanks to its thoughtfully curated mix of books, gifts, and cozy atmosphere. While you browse, enjoy a coffee, beer, or glass of wine and if you’re lucky, you may even meet Libby, the shop’s beloved resident pup.
The Jailhouse
While most visitors go to the Jailhouse for its speakeasy vibes, drinks, and cigars, Dre advises, “Don’t sleep on the food—it’s delicious.” Located in the city’s original jail, the bar features 150+ whiskeys, an extensive wine list, and beers on tap. Their food menu includes share plates, flatbreads, burgers, and sandwiches.
The Banana Bar
One of Belmont’s newer spots, The Banana Bar is quickly becoming a favorite for creative desserts and unique flavor combinations. During her visit, Dre ventured out with “The Campfire,” a s’mores-inspired frozen dipped banana covered in chocolate and topped with graham crackers and marshmallow crème. “On a hot day this hit the spot,” she said.
The Trailhead Store at Daniel Stowe Conservancy
Outside of downtown, you’ll find a peaceful escape that showcases Belmont’s quieter side and natural beauty at the Daniel Stowe Conservancy. Before walking the Gardens, stop into the Trailhead Store to grab a coffee or drink. You can bring it over to the Farmhouse Garden Center to browse plants to take home or unwind on the front porch rocking chairs.
The Belmont Drive-In
For Dre, the drive-in theater is “a staple” of the Belmont experience. It’s the perfect backdrop for a date night or a fun family outing filled with nostalgia. Visitors can watch double features from inside their cars, tailgate with friends, or set up lawn chairs behind their vehicle. Don’t forget to bring cash for admission and concessions and be sure to check their latest movie lineup before visiting.
