Arts at the Abbey brings free concerts by locally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists and ensembles to the Abbey Basilica at Belmont Abbey College. The series offers a diverse range of musical programs, from classical guitar and flute and harp to chamber music and vocal performances, providing cultural opportunities for both the college community and the public.
Experience the music of the late Great Baroque composers with Ensemble Chaconne, featuring Peter H. Bloom on Baroque flute, Carol Lewis on viola da gamba, and Chris Henriksen on Baroque lute. Known for dramatic period-instrument performances, the ensemble brings the music of Renaissance and Baroque Europe to life with theatrical energy and an intimate chamber setting.
Founded in 1985, Ensemble Chaconne has performed throughout the United States, as well as in England and Ontario, appearing at renowned venues including London’s National Gallery, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Boston’s Jordan Hall, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Yale Center for British Art. The ensemble’s repertoire spans well-known masterpieces alongside lesser-known and recently discovered works.
