Arts at the Abbey brings free concerts by locally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists and ensembles to the Abbey Basilica at Belmont Abbey College. The series offers a diverse range of musical programs, from classical guitar and flute and harp to chamber music and vocal performances, providing cultural opportunities for both the college community and the public.
Experience an evening of English music spanning the 17th through 21st centuries as the expressive voice of the oboe takes center stage. Alex Liedtke, principal oboe of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, joins Tom Hicks, assistant professor of piano at the College of Charleston, for a recital exploring the rich musical traditions of England through the distinctive pairing of oboe and piano.
Liedtke was appointed principal oboe of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in 2024 by music director Rafael Payare. He previously held positions with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, and North Carolina Symphony, and has served as guest principal oboe with the Chilean State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Liedtke has also developed a reputation as a sought-after coach and mentor for professional orchestra auditions.
