2026 marks a monumental milestone for the United States: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across the country, communities are celebrating our shared history, honoring the people who helped shape it, and looking ahead to what’s next. In Belmont, North Carolina, you’re invited to be part of the celebration all year long.
As part of the America 250 NC initiative, we’ll be highlighting the moments, places, and people that have shaped the town, and continue to shape it today. As you explore, you’ll encounter historic landmarks, cultural events, music, art, and storytelling that bring Belmont’s past and present together. 2026 is your opportunity to experience America’s story through the Belmont lens.
Your Passport to Explore
To make your visit even more engaging, pick-up a Gaston 250 Passport, a self-guided experience that encourages you to explore 13 historic sites throughout the county while learning more about the region’s role in American history. You’ll find two of those featured locations (Belmont Abbey College and the Belmont Historical Society) right here in Belmont.
You can pick up a passport at the Gaston County Museum of Art & History in Dallas or the Gaston County Public Library (Main Branch) in Gastonia. As you travel and collect stamps, you’ll build your own journey through the county’s past. Visit at least eight participating locations by July 3, 2026, and you’ll earn a commemorative Gaston 250 pin, a meaningful keepsake and souvenir to cherish for years to come.
